Cyprus has officially rolled out a sweeping tax restructuring package to modernize its fiscal framework
Cyprus has officially rolled out a sweeping tax restructuring package to modernize its fiscal framework, alleviate household tax burdens, and boost international competitiveness.
For individuals, the historic 2026 reform provides substantial relief by increasing the personal tax-free income threshold from €19,500 to €22,000, while shifting the top progressive income tax band of 35% to apply only to income exceeding €72,000 (up from €60,000).
Furthermore, the overhaul slashes the standard Special Defence Contribution (SDC) on actual dividend distributions from 17% down to 5% for local domiciled individuals, while completely abolishing the archaic Deemed Dividend Distribution (DDD) mechanism for all future corporate earnings.
It also introduces a wave of targeted deductions for families, primary residence costs, and eco-friendly home upgrades. Crucially, the landmark 0% SDC exemption for non-domiciled tax residents remains fully intact, ensuring that the island remains a premier, highly attractive destination for foreign investors, tech hubs, and high-net-worth individuals.
